Born 10/25/1936

Robert F. "Sonny" Penley died Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Merrit Health River Region Medical Center. He was 85.

Sonny was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg where he graduated from Carr Central High School, attended Hinds Jr. College and later graduated from Mississippi State University. For many years he owned and operated Penley's Store on Eagle Lake and Penley Home's, Inc. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and a member of Carpenter's Union Local in Vicksburg. He was a member of the Eagle Lake United Methodist Church and later attended the Redbone United Methodist Church.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, William "Henry" and Ursula "Ursie" Muirhead Penley; his wife, Flemmie Popham Penley; his son, Robert F. "Sonny" Penley, Jr., his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Davis, Sydney Burgess and Betty Everette.

Survivors include his son, Rusty (Tracey) Penley; his sisters, Pat McNair and Willie Belle Shipley; his grandson, Jake (Lindsay) Penley; his granddaughter, Kristen (Kyle) Adcox; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 2:00 PM, in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Case officiating.

Pallbearers were Will Hubert, Daryle Whittington, Eustace Conway, Billy Patterson, Kyle Adcox and Mike Outz
