John (Jack) Ursery Biedenharn, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 22nd, 2022. His beloved wife of 63 years, Jane Alexander Biedenharn passed away 8 days later on March 30th, 2022. John (better known as Jack) was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi and Jane was born in Cadiz, Kentucky. They met in College at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1962, where they raised their two sons, John (Jubby) and Joe. Jack and Jane were both school teachers. Jack taught at Dan McCarty High School, Ft. Pierce Central and finished his teaching career at Indian River Community College. His classes were Art, Art History, Painting and Ceramics and also coached the tennis teams at Dan McCarty, Ft. Pierce Central and IRCC. Jack was an accomplished artist, his style was unusual, and his works have been displayed in many galleries throughout the country. Jane taught English, Latin and Mythology at Ft. Pierce Central, Westwood and Lincoln Park High School. It is not uncommon to run into past students of Jack and Jane around town and hearing stories of how they have affected their students is always refreshing. They were both voracious readers. It is safe to say, they have read just about everything worth reading and Harry Potter remained one of Jane’s favorites, as a matter of fact, she would read the entire series at least once a year. Jack had a passion for airplanes and sailboats. Many summers were spent aboard an old trimaran, dragging a young Jubby and Joe along, down to the Florida Keys, exploring and snorkeling. Later, the Abacos became their favorite place to visit and explore. There were many fond memories exploring the many islands around Hopetown with their two boys and friends. Jack was an accomplished tennis player. He played at Southwestern and was honored by being inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. There are many fond memories playing Father-Son tournaments with his son Joe. After retiring from school teaching, Jack taught tennis at the Moorings and finished his career teaching at Orchid Island Beach and Tennis Club. As many Grandparents would probably agree, there is little they were more proud of than their four grandchildren. Jill, Lee, Zan and Eliza brought them so much joy towards the end of their lives and were the highlight of their golden years. Jack and Jane were preceded in death by their oldest son Jubby in 2008. They are survived by Jubby’s two children, Jill and Lee, their son Joe, his wife Debbie and their two children, Zan and Eliza. Donations can be made to VNA Hospice House Indian River County. There will be a celebration of life for both Jack and Jane at the residence of Joe and Debbie Biedenharn, 3002 Nassau Drive, Vero Beach, Fl 32960 on Saturday, May 28th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. The family looks forward to celebrate two lives well lived and hearing great stories and ways both Jack and Jane touched the lives of many.
